What’s a Surf Trip with Saltyway to the Azores like?

A typical day during our stay starts with a collectively prepared breakfast in our accommodation before heading to one of the numerous surf spots on São Miguel. The Azores offer consistent swells, and depending on the wind direction, there’s always a spot that’s breaking. Another compelling reason for a surf trip to the Azores is the often still empty breaks. Even when we’re not in the water, there’s much to discover on São Miguel: with our rental car, we take you to secluded beaches, blue crater lakes, hot springs, and picturesque hikes. The beauty of nature in the Azores is simply overwhelming. The weather can change quickly here, so be sure to bring your rain jacket just in case 😉 In the evenings, you have the choice between one of the typical restaurants or a cozy cooking night at the camp.

Arrival and Mobility:

The Portuguese airlines TAP, Sata Azores Airlines, and Ryanair fly multiple times daily from Lisbon and Porto to the international airport Ponta Delgada. We pick you up at the airport, and during the SaltyWay surf week, we’ll drive you with our rental car for surfing and other activities (together we explore island highlights like hot springs, waterfalls, Sete Cidades, or Furnas). Make sure to pack an old swimsuit for the hot springs! It’s not necessarily cold in the Azores, but the weather can change quickly. Therefore, we recommend the proven layered look, and don’t forget your rain jackets!

You can also arrive earlier and spend a week or a few days at the SaltyWay surf camp near Lisbon. Together, we’ll then fly to the Azores on March 30.
