Climbing and surfing in Portugal with our team

Our team is looking forward to getting to know you. Here at SaltyWay in Portugal near Lisbon we are passionate surfers and climbers. We want to share our knowledge, enthusiasm and enthusiasm for surfing and climbing with you. Where better to do that than in one of the most beautiful areas of Portugal?

The Serra de Sintra is a mountain range west of Lisbon that stretches directly to the Atlantic Ocean. Colourful flowers blossom in this area until autumn and even in summer it is lovely green. Climbing and surfing in Portugal is not only fun but also a pleasure for the eyes. Look forward to climbing with sea views and surfing in the beautiful bay of Praia Grande.

One team for all levels

SaltyWay is a surf and climbing camp for adults and families. We want climbing and surfing to be fun. At the same time you should learn something. Therefore our Camp ideal for beginners and advanced. Our team is well trained and is happy to respond to your skills and needs. With beginners we practice the first steps and with advanced we work on the technique.

Julika

It was Julika’s inborn love of the ocean, nature and sports that led her, in 2015, to create SaltyWay. Born and raised in Kiel, Germany by the ocean, Julika has had a longstanding relationship with the sea. In her late teens Kiel became her base between extended trips to Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Morocco and Europe until 2008. Learning from her own mistakes, taking on board others advice, studying Sport Science in Kiel, teaching sport in Gran Canaria, and teaching surf for many years across Europe has made her into the awesome surf teacher she is today. To coupled here resume she studied the surf teacher level 2 in Lisbon and takes care now of the advanced surf lessons at SaltyWay. Since 2014 Portugal has replaced Kiel as her new home and base and where she enjoys life to the fullest; surfing (short boarding, long boarding and body surfing), climbing, skating, horse riding and generally sharing the love for life with friends outside!

Sergio

Sergio, born in Portugal, grew up near Carcavelos beach. He skateboarded all his life and started surfing with 12 years old as well, walking to his beach with his old second hand damaged surfboard. Without a teacher, he learned the hard way how to have fun in the water. You can still see the skateboarder in him when he rides waves. 

Loving art and music, he studied design in Lisbon. For many years he worked in different advertising agencies as an art director. His love of the beach lifestyle, fun and company in the water made it a natural step for him to start to work at SaltyWay. He is the person in charge of all surfing matters. Teaching our guests at SaltyWay since 2018, how to glide along a wave and be safe in the ocean.  Sergio is to be found in the water whenever the waves are fun, showing his creative mind in his surf style.

Pierre

Pierre has a French family back round but is born and raised in Lisbon, is a passionate sportsman.
It was clear to him early on that he would turn his hobby into a career and he completed his bachelor’s degree in sports science.
Pierre is blessed here in Portugal with such a varied region in terms of landscape and sports opportunities and has thus developed a penchant for adventure sports. Pierre can be found in his mountain in the forest of the Serra de Sintra or at the rocks along the Atlantic coast, looking for new climbing projects. Pierre is our experienced Climb Guid at SaltyWay. As well as climbing he loves to mountain bike and surfs since he is a youngster in the waves of Portugal and the world. He is now a certificated Surf teacher as well.

Carolina-Yoga-Teacher

Carolina

Carolina is your Yoga teacher at SaltyWay surf and climb camp. She was born in Lisbon, Portugal, but traveled the world. She lived in London as well as in Norway and traveled for Yoga to Bali, Sri Lanka and Mexico. She studied performing arts where she learned about here body, movement and mind. Future more she is educated in the art of Makeup and window design. Carolina moved back to Portugal and to the magical corner of Praia das Maças to be in touch with nature and the lovely community she found here. She fall in love with the benefits of Yoga for her body and wellbeing and shares this passion in her classes. Carolina teaches Yoga since many years and seeks constantly more knowledge about Yoga and bodywork.

Marco

Marco is born in Bassano del Grappa, a small town one hour from Venice, north Italy. Since he was young, practicing sports was a central focus of his life with particular dedication to football and tennis. At the age of 16 he started surfing in Fuerteventura and since then his life is been marked by several surf trips, in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Indonesia and New Zealand. He is one of the dedicated surfers who drive for hours to get some waves. The only way how you can surf in his home Italy.
Despise all this travels he graduated in philosophy in Padua. The passion for nature and surfing motivated him to move to Portugal and to make his hobby his life. He loves to share this passion for the ocean and sport. He is the most fun in and outside the water.

Isa

Isa, born and raised in Bavaria, has always had a love for mountaineering and nature sports. Since her childhood she has been enthusiastic about sports. Isa completed her bachelor’s degree in sports science in Austria and her master’s degree in sports management in Lisbon. During her sports studies she completed various courses and training in climbing and specialized in outdoor sports. Since 2014 Isa has been working as a climbing guide and shows climbing enthusiasts from all over the world the unique areas of Portugal.
Isa moved to Portugal in 2012 and since then surfing has also been one of her hobbies. A few years ago she also found her passion for yoga. Through her yoga practice Isa finds her balance between thrill and tranquility. Her heart still beats for mountains and climbing walls. Isa is happy to show you as your guide one of the best climbing areas along the west coast of Portugal and give you a unique climbing holiday.

It is our goal that at the end of your holiday you will not only have had an unforgettable time. We also want you to be enthusiastic about climbing and surfing. This means that after your time with us you will have the necessary knowledge, skills and self-confidence to surf or climb without us in the future. We believe that it is never too late to dare something and learn something new. At SaltyWay you learn actively in a small group of like-minded people in a relaxed atmosphere. You live in a beautiful house with garden – only three minutes away from the beach. If you have children, just bring them with you! Spend an unforgettable time together as a family. Families live separately – for extra privacy.

Climbing Courses

Look forward to climbing in Portugal in beautiful nature. Advanced climbers will have as much fun as beginners. While beginners are taught the basics of climbing, advanced climbers learn to climb the lead, crack climbing, sport climbing or climbing with multiple rope lengths, depending on their preferences and level. This is done either together with the others in the course or with your own guide.

Surf Courses

Surfing in Portugal means sun, waves and gorgeous nature. There are also different surf courses: You can register for a course as an absolute beginner or book a step-up course as an advanced beginner. For advanced surfers we offer a Surfari. Soul surfers can conquer the line-up on their own. Our team is looking forward to all levels.

Tips for your holiday in Portugal

Climbing and surfing in Portugal is fun, but not everything: after the courses you can relax in our garden, visit the next market or go for a walk on the cliffs. If your muscles are aching, our yoga classes are sure to do you good. Of course, Portugal is a tourist attraction in itself. How about a trip to Sintra or Lisbon, where you can explore Portugal’s rich culture and fascinating history.
